You may have noticed that I haven’t posted as much these past few months. The winter can be hard. It’s cold, dark and outdoor activities cease. We retreat inside and often shutter down for the long nights. And when the seasonal winter comes with a season of winter in your life, you know you need a break. That’s what I did. I knew that in order to be the best “me” I could be, I needed to rest, regroup and recharge.
I’m reminded of something a dear friend said, “If you focus on filling everyone else’s cups, all of the time, eventually, yours will be empty and you won’t be of help to anyone.” Sometimes, as moms we find that we give all of ourselves until there’s nothing left. Sometimes, we focus so much on others that we forget self-care.
This winter was about self-care for me. I needed to give myself the permission to sleep in, not do anything, watch Netflix and not worry about the lint and dust bunnies. I needed to walk away from things that stressed me out and relax. I love to write. I love photography, but I needed to step away from the weekly demands of writing a blog.
Spring has finally sprung, the days are getting longer, the sun is warmer and I feel more rested and calm. So now, I hope to write each week and do my best to inspire others. I hope when you need a break, you, too will take one.
